Why Defensor?

Owner Managed. The Company is uniquely positioned as the largest Black Empowered dual owned Security Company in the Free State. Not withstanding this, Defensor remains small enough for the owners to give personalised attention to all its customers. Direct access to the owners of the Company is regarded by the market place as a competitive advantage.
Quality Management Systems. Although Defensor is not accredited by means of ISO standards, TUV, etc, a Quality Management System is in place and is audited independently from time to time. From a client perspective these standards are important and have the following auditable criteria:
- The requirement of the Company to demonstrate its ability to provide consistent product and service that meets the customer’s requirements.
- The requirement to address and measure customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system.
- The inclusion of processes for continual improvement and the prevention of non-conformity.
Security Help and Tips

Being safe at home
- Open your door only to people you know and trust.
- Use your peephole, door chain or a window to see who's at the door before opening it.
- Check the credentials of charity workers and don't let them into your home.
- Always check the credentials of service repair people and sales people.
- Talk to these people through a locked security door. If you are unsure about a person's motives, ask for the name of their company and their identification card, then telephone the company to check their credentials.
- Use the phone book to find the number rather than relying on the number the person gives you.
- Ring your local police station if their actions seem suspicious.
- If someone is at the door and you are alone and feeling insecure, pretend there is someone else in the house (preferably a male).
- Be discreet if you live alone. It is better not to indicate on unit or flat directories or nameplates whether you are Ms, Miss, Mrs or Mr. Just use your surname. In the phone book, use initials and surname only.
- If a stranger or caller asks to use your telephone, direct them to the nearest public phone, or make the call for them while keeping them outside.

SAIDSA
1. WHO IS SAIDSA
The South African Intruder Detection Services Association (SAIDSA) is a non-profit association, recognised as the “watchdog” of the electronic security sector and is dedicated to the creation and policing of standards for Intruder alarm installations, alarm monitoring and armed reaction, as well as the CCTV sector. SAIDSA has the interest of its members as well as the public at heart and continuously monitors crime trends and technological advances within the industry and adapts to these changes. SAIDSA is also committed to the training and upliftment of skills within the industry. Membership includes the smallest companies, right up to the largest in the country and has a technical, complaints and training committee, as well as an inspectorate.
2. BENEFITS OF USING A SAIDSA MEMBER

3. STANDARDS OF SAIDSA
In any industry, it is important to have rules, by way of a minimum acceptable standard of workmanship or service which is considered the “norm” in order to have consistency across a trade or profession. Call this a “benchmark” or “rule of thumb” if you will, that is practiced by a majority. Standards are always written for the common good, by those wishing to improve an industry and are usually based on tried and proven methods constituting good security principles. Standards are never the view of a single person, but rather by a large group of people in an industry or organisation with a similar view. The more people that apply the standard, the more solid the standard becomes. It is also equally important that a standard is monitored or policed for compliance and must always have consequences for non-compliance in order for the standard to be effective.
4. INDUSTRY BEST PRACTICE
Industry Best Practice is not created. Rather, it evolves over time, sort of like “common law”. Any concept or trend that is practiced continuously over a long period, could be considered as common law, even though it is not legislated. In the South African electronic intruder alarm sector, the benchmark for intruder alarm installations would be those standards written for the industry by the members of The South African Intruder Detection Services Association (SAIDSA). SAIDSA standards are the only standards that can be rightly construed as “Industry Best Practice”.
As these standards have been written and maintained by a 40 year old association whose members install 85% of all alarm installations carried out in South Africa, this could be considered, and is recognised as the “benchmark” or “common law” within the industry.
