The Defensor Security Employment Equity Policy, Recruitment, Selection & Employment, is nondiscriminatory. It is based on fairness, objectivity, having regard for competency and seeking to redress historical imbalances to achieve broad representation, reflective of as practically possible and within the confines of this policy, the demographic make up of our population.
Consistent with this Policy, the Company supports the principle of developing and promoting employees from within the Organisation. In the event that no “suitably qualified” candidates are available for a vacant position, it will be advertised externally.
Recruitment Criteria, Psychological & Medical Testing. Recruitment criteria will be clearly stipulated at the time of developing the specifications of the position and will be made available to all applicants. These criteria will be carefully scrutinised in order to ensure that they are realistic and neither directly nor indirectly discriminate against any group of persons unless this is unavoidable due to the inherent requirements of the job. The Company will only use psychological and other similar assessments that are scientifically valid and reliable, are applied fairly to all employees and are not biased against any employee or group. Such tests will only be applied when they are essential for the purposes of recruitment decisions. The Company will not allow any medical testing unless it is permitted by legislation, it is an inherent requirement of the job or if it is justifiable due to employment conditions, medical facts or social policy of the fair distribution of employee benefits.
Internal Recruitment. The Company has, in conjunction with the Company’s Employment Equity Policy and its Recruitment and Selection Policy adopted the principle of giving preference to appointing suitable candidates from within the Company where vacancies arise. All positions, except for Senior Executive and Managerial positions, will be advertised internally prior to external recruitment efforts. External recruiting will only be embarked upon where no suitable internal candidates are found. The internal and external advertisements will both reflect the same information and will comply with the Company’s Recruitment and Selection Policy.
